Black Calla Lily Zantedschia ‘Cantor’

Nothing beats the sight of Calla Lilies and ‘Cantor’ is a fabulous variety that will make a stunning addition to your late spring, early summer garden. Producing incredibly beautiful deep purple, trumpet-like blooms that are almost black each summer that is the perfect contrast the green foliage. Great for growing as a single bulbs in a pot, or as all 3 in one large pot. The guarantee the best results, keep them very warm and well-watered for 2 weeks once you have planted to kick start their dormancy. You can keep them warm by using a heater or an airing cupboard, then once the shoots appear, you can place them outside. Delivered as a pack of 3 bulbs, ready to plant out from February to March.

Remember that hybrid callas prefer well-drained soil and they should not be allowed to sit in water.

Planting Advice for Zantedeschia:

• Plant corms any time between February and June when the danger of frost is past.
• Bury them saucer shape up, just with a shallow 1-2cm (1/2-1in) covering of open, well-draining compost.
  Water well.
• Keep them warm and well-watered once planted for 2 weeks to break their dormancy – on a heater or an airing cupboard is fine, then once the green shoots appear, they can be placed outside.

 

Aftercare Advice for your Black Calla Lily:

• Water plants only when the soil is slightly dry as plants dislike soggy soil.
• If you wish, pots can be sunk into beds and borders for the summer – callas will thrive in full sun to partial shade ? bright, indirect light being ideal.
• give plants a feed with a general-purpose fertiliser once the flowers are fading to promote leaf growth.

 

Winter Protection Advice:

• Before frost threatens bring pots indoors, storing them in their pots in a dry place. In spring, restarting the cycle again with light and water.
