Bring the outside in and create a tropical paradise with this stunning Dracaena marginate plant. Also known as the Madagascar dragon tree, it is a fascinating tree with sword-shaped, dark green leaves, finely edged with reddish-brown. Easy to grow, it’s very low maintenance and will only require watering when the top inch of soil has dried out. Slow growing, it’s supplied as a 2-stem plant at 30 and 15cm tall, eventually taking around 10 years to grow to 5ft.
Top Tips
Water the plant only when the top 1 inch of soil is dry and then water it thoroughly with tepid water however, never allow the base of the pot to sit in a saucer of water.
Care Guide
- Feed the plant with a liquid houseplant fertilizer every two weeks in spring and summer.
- Repot every two years into a pot one size larger until plants reach the desired height. After that, repot every three years into the same pot to refresh the soil.
- Control your plant’s height by cutting off the top when needed. The stem will look a bit bare for a while, but within a few weeks, new shoots will appear and the leaves will regrow.
